Sell With Authenticity + An Expanded Vision

I’ll never forget the first time I sold a piece of my own work. I didn’t even mean to. It wasn’t for sale until a stranger asked me if they could buy it.

So of course I sold it right off my neck in exchange for cash. That was all it took to launch a new vision for my life—a vision for creative enterprise.

I boldly left my job and went off to California to sell more. And I did.

This new expanded vision changed the course of my life because once the taste of selling your own work flows, there’s really no going back.

It becomes an obsession—one of learning how to do it correctly.

Selling is an art and a skill yes, but ultimately it is about being authentic. It doesn’t need to be intimidating or feel salesy.

It’s simply an exchange of authentic value.

If you don’t see yourself and your work as having high value, then you will struggle with selling. If parts of you aren’t as authentic as they could be, your connection to clients will suffer.

It is my belief that to become good at selling we must work on ourselves first.

  • our self worth and value

  • our authenticity as a person

And at the same time knowing:

  • the value of what we are offering as not to leave money on the table

  • what the result our product or service gives

  • what the result your dream client wants—does it match up with the result your product gives?

People want results. They want to transform.

For the longest time I struggled with how jewelry could offer something bigger than the jewelry itself. I had to understand why people buy jewelry.

We do it because we want to feel something.

Personally, I feel naked without jewelry. It makes me feel confident, sexy and in control. It’s an extension of who I am and how I show up.

Ask yourself why YOU buy jewelry. Then ask your clients why they buy it. This is the start to knowing who your dream client is. Most often we are a reflection of our dream client, so knowing ourselves is crucial.

It’s so important to know your dream client inside and out because when we do, we can use the words they use to attract more people just like them with our marketing.

For example, my silversmithing and jewelry business clients all have these things in common (myself included):

  1. We LOVE turquoise

  2. We deeply LOVE animals

  3. We are kind, creative and loving individuals

  4. We also all want to BE MORE than we currently are

  5. We all wanted to learn silversmithing for the longest time

  6. We have the dream of a successful jewelry business

  7. We are willing to do what it takes to get there

What’s the result they all want? To change their lives through creativity and do something they truly love with their time. And they do.

When I first launched my silversmithing courses, I did not expect people to reach out and say that I changed their lives:

They are paying you their valuable money and you are giving them a valuable product that changes who they are.

An expanded vision for our life.

 

Vision leads us to purpose and impact.

Having a clear and expanded vision for both life and business provides us with direction. It becomes our foundation, our compass when challenges appear.

It becomes our WHY which inspires us to keep going, giving us purpose.

Life can suddenly gift us with a new vision like in my experience above. Other times, speaking with someone who has a talent in expanding the vision for your life and business is all it takes.

My mentor did this for me the very first time we spoke 6 years ago. She saw the potential in me to BE MORE. She offered the idea of having my own jewelry school instead of teaching for others. She offered creating destination courses here in Crested Butte, inspired me to write a book on designing engagement rings, and drove me to create Jewelry Business School. I’ve done everything she has ever told me to do.

She re-ignited my passion when it had been dimmed and it all started with one conversation from an ad I saw on Facebook. Even though she lives on the other side of the world from me, I work with her still because she sees me and what I’m capable of—immense impact.
